Mole Deterrents

Home Mole Deterrents

Many customers ask me if there are any 100% effective mole deterrents that will save their lawns and the moles in the process.

The honest answer is that there is currently no 100% effective method but there are a few techniques that can be tried prior to trapping them. It is very unlikely that any mole deterrent will be permanent and success rates are probably around 20 – 30% that they are deterred at all.

I provide a mole deterrent service where I can survey your garden and create a possible deterrent plan.

This is only suitable to small areas like a small to medium garden without any surrounding farm land or woodland.

For a professional mole deterrent assessment visit my Fee is £50.

This includes a chat about what can be done to deter moles from entering your property and causing damage. I can also implement the agreed deterrents on this visit but any products will incur additional costs.

Can you live trap Moles?

In short the answer is NO. Althought there are many live mole trap devices being sold online they are not recommended by professionals and welfare charities. There are two main reasons why moles should not be live trapped.

  1. Moles have very unique feeding habits, requiring them to eat every 4 hours. This means that any live trap would need to be checked every hour for the moles welfare. They are also mostly active during the night and early morning making this even more unachievable.
  2. If you did manage to live trap a mole, what would you do with it? If you wanted to relocate the mole to a new location you would need to ensure it is a suitable environment, this an abundance of food. Moles are also very territorial so the mole may not survive in its new situation. You also run the risk of passing your mole problem onto someone else.
